John Thompson has served as a missionary and pastor for 30 years. For 13 years, John served on staff with Armitage Baptist Church, a multicultural church ministering to 37 different ethnic groups in the city of Chicago. At Armitage, John served as Pastor of Discipleship and has taught in many churches, Bible colleges, and seminaries on discipleship topics. Though he has supervised and led many discipleship small groups, his real passion for the past 38 years, along with his wife Debbie, has been personal disciple making.
After serving in the City of Chicago for thirty years John has authored two books. His first book, Urban Impact: Reaching the World through Effective Urban Ministry, which has been acclaimed by many as one of the best and most practical works on the subject. After writing Urban Impact, John wrote Changing the Landscape of Eternity: Transforming Believers to Disciples.
Currently John is on staff with Navigator Church Ministry, coaching pastors as they focus on making disciples. John and his wife Debbie discipled their four children who are all faithfully serving the Lord in the city of Chicago. They continue their ministry to their family with family night and Grandpa, Grandma Day weekly. The Thompson’s have 21 Grandchildren.
